MICAH STAMPLEY
Talented… Prodigy… Gifted… Inspired… Driven… Dedicated… Actually, there is no one word to describe Micah Stampley. From his humble beginnings growing up in Baton Rouge as one of eight children born to Richard Stampley, a carpenter and Pastor, and Delmarie Stampley, a devoted mother and homemaker; to his chart-topping debut album, ‘The Songbook of Micah’, Micah Stampley is a musical phenomenon on the rise.
Micah was destined for musical greatness from birth and with his God-given singing gift he joined his church choir at the age of four and by the age of seven, he was leading the choir at his father’s church! By age thirteen, with his brother Nathaniel as his partner, he became the church’s official music minister. As Micah grew and ministered, his multi-octave voice developed into a powerful instrument of praise and worship to God.
After graduation, Micah continued in ministry, however, his brother was killed in a freak gun accident in 1994. Micah felt devastated, alone, and adrift in his musical career. “I was so miserable,” he recalls, “My brother had not only been my best friend, but my musical partner for years. I still had a passion for music, but I didn’t have a clue what to do with it.”
For the next few years, Micah just answered the call of God as he heard it. Micah traveled the country with nationally know evangelist Rev. Earl Johnson, accompanying him on his numerous crusades. Micah also appeared in several Gospel musicals in Los Angeles. Eventually, he returned to his father’s church to oversee the music department. It was at this time that he met his new partner, Heidi Jones in the college Gospel choir. Heidi became Micah’s life and writing partner a little over a year after they met.
In 2003, Micah came to the attention of Dexterity Sounds, Bishop T.D. Jakes’ record label. Before anything could transpire, Micah won the 2004 Stellar Awards National Star Search, after competing against thousands of candidates. Shortly thereafter, Micah was invited to Bishop Jakes’ Potter’s House as a special musical guest. After the service, Bishop Jakes called Micah to his office and offered him a record deal instantly. This divine connection has lead to extensive exposure nationally and abroad.
The rest as they say is history in the making. Micah’s sophomore album, ‘A Fresh Wind’, a compendium of exuberant worship and praise melodies, comes on the heels of his chart-topping debut, which hit the music charts as the second highest debut for a Male Gospel Artist in the history of Billboard, a 1 of 10 Critic’s Picks for Billboard’s Gospel 2005 Year In Music, and garnered him a double 2006 Stellar Award Nomination in the Male Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year categories.
When asked, “What’s next?” Micah replies, “God has already given me the desires of my heart, so I don’t pray for opportunities anymore. I just pray to be ready for whatever He has in store for us in the days and years to come.” Conclusively, Micah is a man running after God’s heart.
Ministry Statement:
My vision is to see fellow believers and those that have not come into the knowledge of the truth, find the source of all things in Jesus Christ and run to the well that won’t run dry. My passion to see others increase their desire for God is at the forefront of all of my endeavors. Advancement of the kingdom of God in the earth by producing a sound that comes from the heart of God, which pleases God, is my ultimate quest. Manifestation of God’s power is what I desire as I walk out a life that is holy and acceptable before God.
